Kenya Celebrates Obama Victory

The half-brother of US President-elect Barack Obama, Said Obama (L), his grandmother Sarah Obama (C) and his half sister Auma Obama, get ready for a press conference in the village of Kogelo, 05 Nov 2008
VOA News just reported that crowds in Kenya are rushing together to celebrate the victory of Barrack Obama. The people there were overjoyed when President Mwai Kibaki announced a national holiday to celebrate the success of Kenya’s “native son.”
The president said:
Because of his roots here in Kenya, as a country we are full of pride for his success. I therefore wish to announce that tomorrow, Thursday the sixth of November the year 2008 be observed as a public holiday to enable all Kenyans to celebrate this historic achievement for President-elect Obama.
Obama’s uncle, Sa’id Obama was especially pleased:
People are so happy, so excited. People are dancing. People are in a festive mood,” he said. “And we are also slaughtering cows, goats, sheep, I mean people are going to feast literally to celebrate Barack’s win.
One dancing Kenyan was amazed at what is possible in America, where anyone could be president. He declared that this is “true democracy,” since “it does not matter where you come from.”
The Kenyans have much to celebrate, and the national holiday is understandable. A man from their tribe has just become the president of America. They are undoubtably in high hopes that when Obama starts redistributing the wealth, they will get a nice piece of the action. They better hope they he comes through for them considering that they just slaughtered all of their animals.
